I grew up close to Detroit but by the time I was old enough to know what was going on the city itself was far past decay. Still I was fascinated going downtown. It was such a thrill and it felt so dangerous. Maybe it’s because I watched the classic 80s flick ‘Adventures with Babysitting‘ way too many times but I always thought that when I was old enough I was going to move away and come to a big city.
So it was that when I graduated college I immediately started to focus on where to move next – Boston, Chicago, New York City? I wound up in Chicago because it was the closest and perhaps the easiest to move to since I at least knew a couple of people there.
It’s nearly two decades later and I still do love cities and I’m fortunate to have been able to visit some of the most amazing cities not just in the US but in the world – Paris, Rome, Venice, London, Berlin, etc. Now that I have two kids of my own I can’t wait to show them all the world has to offer and get a chance to rediscover all the amazing cities around the globe.
